If you read the Book of Mormon, you’ll notice they were a sub-group of a larger pre-existing culture.

I have read the Book of Mormon and in no way does it suggest they were a subgroup of a larger pre-existing culture. This is what Mormon apologists have tried to use to explain away the reasons for not finding any historical evidence of the Book of Mormon.

The church is trying to make us believe that these huge populations and huge cities as described in the Book of Mormon all fit into a tiny area in the Americas that happened to be completely wiped of all evidence and yet was the very people that Christ decided to show himself to. So, even though Joseph Smith led his followers to believe that the American Indians originated from the Book of Mormon story, in fact only a tiny subset of them actually were- SO tiny that we can’t find any evidence of these people’s ancestry originating from Israel.

“What is required is that evidence shall be produced that will give us a completely empty area 3,000 years BC, into which a colony from the Euphrates valley (supposedly) came and established a race and an empire with an iron and steel culture; with a highly developed language of that period; then, after an existence of about sixteen or eighteen hundred years, passed away, became extinct in fact, as a race and as a nation; this about 600 B.C., leaving this area again without human inhabitants. Then into this second time empty area- we need evidence of the coming of two small colonies about 600 B.C. which will be the ancestors of at least SOME or even ONE Native American race; possessing as did the former race- domestic animals, the horse, ass and cow; with an iron and steel culture; and a highly developed written literature, the national Hebrew literature in fact.”

YET, 150 years after the Book of Mormon and no evidence of this appears.

  3. BOMC says:

You wish to measure the spiritual worth of this book through archaeology? Jesus described your approach thusly:

A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; (Matthew 16:4)

I repeat, the word “Mormon” means “turn to God.” Is it fair to judge a book on “How to turn to God” through skewed theories of archaeology?

Nevertheless, evidence does abound, of the right kind, if you know where to look! As God will never condone current teachings of the Mormon Church, He shan’t give proof via Book of Mormon confirmations that would lend support. Free the Book of Mormon in the public’s eye from Mormonism and they’ll come forth.
